About Ben and the Biorhythms

Ben and the Biorhythms was my university side project, bringing together a small but passionate group of biology enthusiasts with a love for music. Founded during my university years, the band was an innovative fusion of scientific curiosity and new wave rhythms, creating a niche yet memorable musical journey.

The Origin Story

While immersed in my biology studies, I sought a creative outlet that combined my academic interests with my musical talent. This led to the formation of Ben and the Biorhythms, a side project where my friends and I could explore the intersections of science and music. The band was a way for us to unwind from rigorous coursework while sharing our love for biology in a fun and engaging manner.

The Sound and Style

We weren’t aiming for the charts, but we carved out a unique space with our quirky, synth-driven new wave sound. Influenced by bands like New Order and Depeche Mode, our music featured catchy tunes and clever lyrics that turned complex biological concepts into relatable and entertaining songs. Our performances, often limited to university events and small gatherings, were filled with energy and a sense of playful experimentation. We performed gigs at GSCE events and secondary school giving away our album on CD’s.

In 2010, we recorded our first album, Synapse Symphonies, a collection of tracks that perfectly encapsulated our unique blend of science and new wave music. During our time at university we gave away this album to students. Recently, I have breathed new life into the project by making this album available on major streaming platforms.
